Yield Potential and Variability of Teff (Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter) Germplasms under Intensive and Conventional Management Conditions

چکیده

Teff is the most strategic cereal crop grown from high rainfall to drought prone areas of Ethiopia, where it covers nearly 30% land allotted for cereals. However, its productivity remains very low due lack knowledge and research interventions. To investigate grain yield potential, estimate genetic parameters, diversity, a pot experiment with intensive management field conventional at two contrasting locations seasons using same 317 genotypes additional 3 improved cultivars in were carried out. The results showed highly significant variation among yield, biomass, harvest index, phenological traits under both experiments. best linear unbiased predictor (BLUP)-adjusted performance ranged 4.2 8.8 g/plant 1.8 4.3 growing condition management. Coefficient variation, heritability, expected advance highest Among traits, filling period exceptionally coefficient advance. wider range index observed moderate heritability signifies potential teff further improvement through trait recombination.

Genetic Variability, Heritability and Trait Relationships in Recombinant Inbred Lines of Tef [Eragrostis Tef (Zucc.) Trotter]

Characterization of genetic variability in a population is pertinent as genetic diversity within population and within species determines the extent of improvement achieved through crop improvement 8 methods. One hundred ninety six F recombinant inbred lines (RILs) of tef, developed by single-seed descent method from a cross between two tef varieties DZ-01-196 and DZ-01-2356, were evaluated to ...

Genetic diversity in tef [Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter]

The DNA polymorphism among 92 selected tef genotypes belonging to eight origin groups was assessed using eight inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) primers. The objectives were to examine the possibility of using ISSR markers for unravelling genetic diversity in tef, and to assess the extent and pattern of genetic diversity in the test germplasm with respect to origin groups. The eight primers w...

Evaluation of wheat breads supplemented with Teff (Eragrostis tef (ZUCC.) Trotter) Grain flour

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Supplementations of teff (Eragrostis teff (ZUCC.) Trotter) grain flour to wheat flour at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% levels on organoleptic and nutritional evaluation of the supplemented bread. Protein, moisture, ash and falling number as well as rheological evaluation were estimated for prepared flour blends and dough. Besides, organoleptic assessme...

Genetic and phenotypic diversity in selected genotypes of tef [Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter

Tef [Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter] is an important staple food crop, especially in Ethiopia where it is annually grown on 2.8 million hectares of land. It is important for food security in the region, in spite of having a low yield, mainly due to lodging. In this study, 15 representative landraces as well as three improved varieties have been selected for in-depth characterization of many par...

Response of Yield and Yield Components of Tef [Eragrostis tef (Zucc.) Trotter] to Tillage, Nutrient, and Weed Management Practices in Dura Area, Northern Ethiopia

The low average grain yield (0.7 ton ha(-1)) of tef in Ethiopia is mainly attributed to low soil fertility, and inappropriate tillage and weeds control practices. Despite this, limited scientific information has been documented so far on their interaction effects on tef crop productivity in northern Ethiopia. The objective of this study was to assess the separate and interaction effects of till...
